This week I want to start something new and share my thoughts on five recent purchases! We shop on Prime Day – Prime Membership $3 bounty“>Amazon a lot. Seriously, if we received points or frequent flyer miles we could probably afford to travel the world. (Target is a close second, but we do get 5% off with our Red Card and we get to use coupons! ) That’s a story for another day.
I was trying to find topics that would help my readers and everywhere I look I see frugal blogs helping people save money. I am not frugal at all and spend way more than I should on things I don’t need. I realized that is my superpower. I can use this to help people make good purchases. We try out so many products, some we love, some we don’t. I can save you the hassle of buying them and returning them yourself! I can help you figure out which options is best for you, even if it did not work for us.
So I want to share 5 of our recent purchases and give you my honest opinion of them.
This Weeks 5 Recent Purchases
1. MAM pacifiers
These MAM Pacifiers, Newborn Pacifier, Best Pacifier for Breastfed Babies, ‘Start’ Design Collection, Boy, 2-Count“>MAM pacifiers are great, our older son loved them as a baby and now this one does too. Interestingly enough, we originally found this pacifier at Target in the free welcome package when you setup your baby registry. I highly recommend this, if you shop at Target for any baby items. You get a Welcome Package with $100 worth of gifts to try out, which is how we found the perfect pacifier for our babies. You also continue to get 15% off anything that is not purchased for you from your list. Think diapers in every size and formula! These everyday items get expensive, so why not register for free? Add that 15% on top of your coupons and it is a steal!)
The pacifiers we originally bought were these for 0-6 months Chicco NaturalFit, but we lose them all the time so I wanted to get more and found the MAM ones, which are the exact ones my older son loved, so I got a couple! They are the newborn ones. You can get them at Target or Amazon.
(Pro tip: When my oldest son was around 6 months and moved to the crib we got these glow in the dark pacifiers, which are amazing! At night pacifiers fall out of there mouth and sometimes out of the crib and you are searching for them stealth mode, on the floor or in the crib, you will be glad to have glow in the dark pacifiers, so you do not wake up your little one.)
2. Snuggle Me Organic
We bought the Snuggle Me Organic. My older son loved his rock and play and stayed in it forever. But this son doesn’t mind being still and he loves to snuggle. We haven’t gotten him to love the Snuggle Me yet. I love it, it is soft and cozy the material is pretty and super soft but he doesn’t even like hanging out in it. We debated between this and the DockATot. We decided on this one because it seems a little more cost even thought it means he will grow out of it sooner.
3. Little Lotus Swaddle
So full disclosure the Little Lotus Swaddle was a gift from work. We did not get it on Amazon or this week, BUT we did start using it this week and it is a huge hit. We actually got it as a gift from my company, and we thought it was over priced. But considering it does what we want it to and we paid double for the snuggle me, I retract my statement. There is only one thing that I don’t like, I haven’t figured out how to use it at night. Do I keep him in it and just feed him and put him back? Otherwise it’s too loud and too much work to get him in and out without waking him all the way. Keeping him in doesn’t really work because I can’t burp him in it and I feel like we should let his arms move a little bit.
The reason it is a pricey swaddle, is probably the same reason it works. There are 2 features we love – 1. It is a little heavier than most swaddles, which gives your baby a little more comfort. 2. The interior fabric is NASA inspired proprietary material that regulates the baby’s temperature to keep him from getting too hot or too cold.
Update: We finally gave it a try at night and it is the best thing ever my son loves it! He is sleeping one stretch in it 6 hours. It is totally worth it if it works for you. What we do is just put him in it for the first stretch of 6 hours then we just put him down without it, because there are 4 attachments and it will wake him up fully if we put him back in, which means he doesn’t go back to sleep. (And then Mommy doesn’t go back to sleep. ) I can’t recommend this Swaddle enough!
4. Toddler Pillow
This Toddler Pillow is probably a poor purchasing decision. We bought this for our 2 year old because he loves his little 8×8 pillow so much but it is just too little. We watch him struggle with it all night long (on our Nest Cam that we use as a baby monitor) and we finally decided he needs a better pillow. Well we are also getting him a toddler bed set, the problem is that the bed sets come with regular size pillow cases. And the single pillow case for this toddler pillow is $17! The same cost as the pillow, I just couldn’t do it. I do not recommend, but feel free to check it out here, if you don’t believe me. =) I wouldn’t believe it if I didn’t see it myself!! There might be a reason for someone to buy this and the pillowcase, but it was definitely an impulse buy for us.
5. Nest Home Lock
We have been waiting for the Nest Home Lock for so long to add to our smart home! It is perfect for us. The color is great, easy to install, easy to use. We already have the Nest Camera‘s (3 of them) and the Nest Thermostat, so it is nice that the lock shows up right there in there in the app that already use. I love the feature of automatically locking after a given time, ours is set at 5 minutes! It is so convenient. The only potential problem is that if you don’t close the door all the way it won’t lock. BUT it does alert you so you can’t always turn around if that happens. Best purchase we have had in awhile. This was a Father’s Day gift for my husband because every time we leave the house, he says, “Did we lock the front door?” and we will turn around to check. No more turning around for us!
We recently returned this Baby Shusher. You don’t realize how much you “Shush” until you have this product. Fun fact: The sounds is a recording of the creators actually making the shhhhhhh noise. We really liked the product, but after about a week of use it stopped working. We changed the batteries and it still didn’t work. They have an app as well that shushes, but then it uses up your phone battery. Recommend it if you want to give it a try. If yours stops working like ours, you can always return it on Amazon.
We might return the Pillow and the Snuggle Me if we don’t get more use out of it.
Have tried any of these products let me know what you think! Also if you have any questions that I didn’t cover! Please leave a comment or send me a message I would love to help any way that I can.
In queue for next week, my husband bought a tablet stand for an iPad (that we hardly use). I am not sure why, but if I find out this week I’ll let you know what he thinks. We also got
We are going to buy a toddler bedding set for our older son and a second set of sheets for our King sized bed. If we return the Snuggle Me, I might try the DockATot. I want to try a skin care product line. Currently, debating between Colleen Rothschild and Drunk Elephant. I hear good things about both. Also, I read an interesting post about natural deodorant, so I am going to give that a try. I will let you know what I think about it.
If you have any input on any of these future buys let me know!
